Christian Babista

Christian Babista (b. 1995) is a visual artist working with photography and cinema, exploring themes of time, memory, and the divine through experimental techniques and found imagery. His work examines the ways images shape our understanding of history and perception.

Babista's first photobook, When the Waves Are Gone, was shortlisted for the 2023 Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award and exhibited internationally in Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Germany, and India. In 2024, his work, If You Leave, was shown at the Angkor Photo Festival and is now part of the permanent collection at the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (KMoPA) in Japan.

He has also directed short films that have been recognized in various festivals. Oblitus (2016) won Best Experimental Film at the Indie Un-Film Festival, while Tagimpan (2016) was awarded Best Film at SinePiyu and screened at Cinema Rehiyon and Gawad CCP. Anonymous Student Vlog (2018) won 1st Place at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Freedom MOV_E and was screened at Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino: Sine Kabataan. He also worked as a camera operator on Stopping Traffic, which was named Best Film at the Alaska International Film Awards.

In 2025, Babista participated in the 20th Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops.
