Andie Remulla (b. 2000) is an underwater photographer based in the Philippines, with a passion for capturing the life beneath the surface. She is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts and currently works as an Art Director.
With over four years of scuba diving experience, she has dedicated the past three to her photography practice. Her work is primarily shot in the abundant waters of Anilao, Philippines—a globally renowned macro diving destination. There, she shoots tiny marine life measuring anywhere between the size of a golf ball and a grain of rice.
Remulla's practice also extends into the realm of Blackwater Photography, where she explores the open water at night and photographs otherworldly, bioluminescent creatures that rise to the surface at night. Capturing the zooplankton in their natural living state, exhibiting their natural behaviors, her Blackwater work spotlights the often-overlooked lifeforms of the deep ocean. Many of these creatures are remarkably small, yet incredibly intricate and luminous.
Through her work, Remulla hopes to offer viewers a rare glimpse into this hidden world. She hopes to spark curiosity about marine life to inspire people to develop a personal connection with the ocean. She believes that fostering this connection will not only deepen our understanding of marine life but also motivate people to protect its ecosystems.
